A security analyst, Bulama Bukarti, has described the recent strike reportedly ordered by former U.S. President Donald Trump against the Lakurawa armed group in Sokoto State as a welcome development, noting that it could significantly weaken the group’s leadership and operational capacity.
Bukarti explained that such an action has the potential to disrupt the group’s command structure as well as the channels through which it receives logistical and material support, thereby reducing its ability to carry out attacks.
He further expressed satisfaction that there are indications Trump may have adopted recommendations calling for closer collaboration with the Nigerian government in tackling armed groups, rather than acting unilaterally.
According to Bukarti, sustained cooperation between international partners and Nigerian authorities is crucial to effectively confronting banditry and other security threats across the country.
