Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Al Nassr has been thrown into doubt following reports that the Portuguese superstar has a release clause written into his current contract.
The 40-year-old forward was notably absent from Al Nassr’s Saudi Pro League clash against Al Riyadh on Monday, with reports suggesting he is currently on strike amid growing dissatisfaction at the club.
Sources close to the situation claim Ronaldo is considering leaving Al Nassr when the season ends in June. Possible destinations include a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States or a sensational return to European football.
It is understood that the Portugal captain has a €50 million release clause, which could make a summer exit feasible for interested clubs.
Ronaldo is reportedly unhappy with how Al Nassr is being treated by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), the state-backed entity that acquired majority stakes in Al Nassr, Al Hilal, Al Ittihad and Al Ahli in 2023.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star believes PIF is limiting Al Nassr’s ability to strengthen their squad, allegedly to prevent the club from dominating the Saudi Pro League title race.
With tensions rising, Ronaldo’s next move could become one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer.
