Hugo Ekitike says scoring goals remains “the best feeling as a striker” after continuing his impressive run of form in Liverpool’s 2–1 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
The forward found the net for a third consecutive league match on Saturday evening, heading home cleverly to double Liverpool’s advantage at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Ekitike has now scored five goals in his last three Premier League appearances and has registered 11 goals in all competitions since completing his summer move from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, the Frenchman said:
“It is the best feeling as a striker. You need goals. The most important thing is the win and playing with confidence, and obviously helping the team with goals.
“For the first goal, I helped with the pass before the assist, so I just try to help the team in every way I can. That’s what matters most.”
Match Summary
The contest in north London was packed with drama. Tottenham were reduced to 10 men in the first half after Xavi Simons was shown a red card for a serious foul.
Liverpool took full advantage shortly after the restart, with Alexander Isak opening the scoring with a composed finish. Ekitike then made it 2–0 with his headed goal, before Spurs pulled one back late on through Richarlison.
The hosts’ frustrations deepened in stoppage time when captain Cristian Romero was sent off for a second bookable offence, as Liverpool held firm to secure all three points.
Reflecting on the performance, Ekitike added:
“It wasn’t our best game and it was difficult, but we controlled it. The last part of the second half was hard because they pushed and scored, but we kept the result.
“Playing against 10 men is never easy. They are at home, the fans push them, and they have even more energy. You have to be smart and fight for every ball.”
Liverpool return from London with another crucial win as Ekitike’s scoring streak continues to gather momentum.
