A senior Russian general was killed Monday in southern Moscow after a bomb exploded in his vehicle, in an attack Russian authorities say is connected to Ukraine.

Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov died when a bomb detonated in the car he was traveling in. Russian officials claim the attack was directly linked to Ukraine, though investigations are still underway to determine the full circumstances.
Authorities say the explosion appeared to be a carefully planned operation. Security forces are actively investigating the incident to identify those responsible.
Attack Happens Amid Peace Talks
The attack comes as U.S. Special Envoy for the Russia-Ukraine Conflict, Steve Witkoff, reported encouraging progress in peace talks between mediators. Witkoff expressed hope for a positive outcome, even as fighting continues on the ground.
Separate Strikes in Krasnodar Region
In a separate incident, another attack reportedly linked to Ukraine hit the Krasnodar region, destroying:
- Two oil tankers
- Several major bridges connecting rural communities
The strike caused a large fire and significant property damage, according to local authorities.
