Cristiano Ronaldo found the net early on Monday, but his goal proved insufficient as Al Nassr slumped to a 3–1 defeat against Saudi Pro League leaders Al Hilal, conceding three times in the second half.
Ronaldo’s first-half strike briefly raised hopes for second-placed Al Nassr of cutting into Al Hilal’s advantage at the top of the table. However, the league leaders responded emphatically after the break, with Salem Al-Dawsari and Rúben Neves converting penalties on either side of a sublime finish from Mohamed Kanno.
The match swung decisively in the 60th minute when Al Nassr goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge, leaving the visitors to battle the remainder of the contest with 10 men.
Al Hilal took full advantage of their numerical superiority. Kanno doubled the lead with a deft flick from a perfectly weighted cross from the left, before Neves sealed the victory from the spot deep into stoppage time.
The result hands Simone Inzaghi’s Al Hilal side a commanding seven-point cushion over their Riyadh rivals, strengthening their grip on the Saudi Pro League title race.
