A macabre discovery was made in Rome on January 6, when a human femur was found in an uncultivated green area near Via Laurentina, specifically on Via Celine. Two passersby made the discovery after noticing the bone protruding from the ground, which had become difficult to access due to recent rainfall. They immediately alerted the authorities.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to secure the steep area, which was at risk of collapse, alongside officers of the State Police and the forensic team. The area was cordoned off to allow for examinations and to preserve the site, while the bone was catalogued and taken to a laboratory.
In the coming hours, more thorough inspections will be carried out to check for the presence of additional human remains. The femur will undergo analysis to determine how long it had been there. Only scientific investigations will be able to provide useful answers.
