PDP Sets Up Caretaker Committees in Cross River, Akwa Ibom

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted caretaker committees to manage its affairs in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, pending the conduct of fresh state congresses.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, following deliberations by party leaders at the PDP national secretariat.

According to the statement, the appointments were approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution.

Cross River State Caretaker Committee

In Cross River State, Bassey Ewa was appointed Chairman of the caretaker committee. Other principal officers include Dr Bassey Adim as Secretary and Emmanuel Ekpe as Administrative Secretary.

Members of the committee are:

Dr Joe Edet, Udie Mike, Dr Lynne Bassey, Etim Okon, Ankot Cohbom, Ofana Odo, Dr Onun Unoh, Ebaye Akunjom, Godswill Obindim, Edem Ekong, Raymond Abo, Moses Bisuakefe, Agabi Oko, Walter Esom, Ekpo Asuquo, and Pastor Victor Takon.

Akwa Ibom State Caretaker Committee

For Akwa Ibom State, Igwai Umoren was named Chairman, with Harrison Ekpo appointed as Deputy Chairman. Borono Bassey will serve as Secretary, while Ewa Okpo was appointed Publicity Secretary and Uduak Essien as Organising Secretary.

Other key officers include Aniekan Asuquo as Youth Leader, Mary Abara as Women Leader, and Enoch Enoch as Legal Adviser.

Additional members of the committee are:

Aniebiet Cornelius, Udim Peters, Ayanime Obot, Ofon Michael, Mandu Effiong, David Umanah, Usenmfon Ibanga, Unwana Assam, Obong Ogbuji, Kufre Umoh, Emibana Ubolum, Gregory Etim, Iberedem Asamamnyie, Mtom Ben, Iniobong Ukwak, Emmanuel Umah, Ekaette Philips, Effiong Bassey, Effiong Onukak, Ime Okwong, Kate Atabia, David Ibanga, and Ukoette Ukoette.

Tenure of Committees

Ememobong stated that the caretaker committees will oversee party activities in both states for a period not exceeding three months, or until new state executives are elected.
