Renowned Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi after her widely celebrated song, has passed away.
Her death was announced on Tuesday via an Instagram post shared by fellow gospel artiste Ayo Melody on behalf of the family. According to the statement, Akinnaanu died on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos.
The post, which featured a photograph and a short video clip of the late singer, read in part:
“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye (Omije Ojumi), who passed away on January 12, 2026, at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria. May God grant her eternal rest.”
The statement was signed by Olawale Akinnaanu on behalf of the family.
Health Concerns Before Her Death
While the family did not disclose the cause of death, Akinnaanu had earlier appealed for prayers following a leg-related health challenge.
In October 2025, a video from a church service at G.F. David Ministries, Ibadan, showed the gospel singer seated with her leg raised on a chair as a cleric prayed for her. During the service, the pastor spoke of persistent bleeding in the leg and described the condition as a spiritual attack.
However, there has been no official confirmation linking the ailment to her death.
Life and Ministry
Bunmi Akinnaanu began singing at a young age and later made a bold decision to leave her banking career to pursue gospel music full-time.
She rose to national prominence with her breakout song “Omije Ojumi”, which became a household worship anthem in churches and Christian homes across Nigeria. She went on to release other notable songs, including “O Ti Sure”, further cementing her legacy in the Nigerian gospel music scene.
She is remembered for her soulful voice, heartfelt lyrics, and deep commitment to her faith and ministry.
