Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a new round of strategic appointments and promotions across key government institutions, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and service delivery in the state.
The approvals were announced in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa.
Newly Approved Appointments and Promotions
According to the statement, the governor approved the following:
- Abubakar Matawalle was appointed as Acting Director-General, Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board
- Yusuf Mukhtar was promoted to the rank of Permanent Secretary
- Rahama Alhaji was appointed Provost, Kano State Anti-Corruption Institute
- Renowned Kannywood actress Aina’u Ade was promoted from Special Assistant to Senior Special Assistant on Kannywood Affairs
Profiles of Key Appointees
Dawakin-Tofa noted that Matawalle previously served as Executive Secretary of the Pilgrims Welfare Board and Permanent Secretary, Establishment, before retiring from the Kano State Civil Service in 2014.
“Matawalle is a seasoned administrator who rose from the position of Assistant Secretary to Permanent Secretary and distinguished himself in the management of Hajj operations over the years,” the statement said.
On Rahama Alhaji, the spokesperson described her as a highly accomplished legal practitioner with vast experience in litigation, corporate law, regulatory compliance, and academic administration.
“Her appointment reflects the governor’s commitment to strengthening anti-corruption institutions with professionals of proven integrity, competence, and administrative capacity,” Dawakin-Tofa added.
The statement also explained that Aina’u Ade’s promotion followed her outstanding performance and contributions in her former role as Special Assistant on Kannywood Affairs.
Governor’s Charge to Appointees
Governor Yusuf urged all newly appointed and promoted officials to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating hard work, transparency, and unwavering loyalty to the administration’s Kano First Agenda.
All appointments and promotions take immediate effect.

The latest approvals come just days after the governor sanctioned another round of appointments aimed at improving governance and service delivery across critical sectors of the state.
In that exercise, Abdulkadir Kankarofi was appointed Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs in the Office of the Executive Governor.
