Clashes erupt across multiple cities amid growing anger over rising living costs
At least four people were killed on Saturday in western Iran during violent clashes between protesters and security forces, according to two human rights organisations. The groups accused Iran’s Revolutionary Guards of opening fire on demonstrators.
Protests continued across several cities nationwide for the seventh consecutive day, driven by widespread public anger over the rising cost of living in the Islamic Republic.
Witnesses and rights monitors reported that dozens of people were injured as security forces moved to disperse crowds, intensifying concerns over the government’s response to the unrest.
The ongoing demonstrations are described by activists as the most significant since the 2022–2023 protest movement, which was brutally suppressed by authorities. That crackdown reportedly left hundreds dead and thousands arrested.
Tensions remain high as protesters continue to demand economic relief and accountability, while authorities have yet to issue an official statement addressing the latest deaths.
