Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — December 19, 2025
Bologna booked their place in the Italian Super Cup final on Friday night after defeating Inter Milan 3–2 on penalties following a 1–1 draw at Riyadh’s King Al-Awwal Park Stadium.
Match summary
Ciro Immobile converted the decisive spot-kick in front of a sparse crowd, sending Bologna through to a final clash with Serie A champions Napoli on Monday. Napoli secured their place in the final with a comfortable 2–0 victory over AC Milan on Thursday.
Inter had taken an early lead through Marcus Thuram, who fired home a fine volley in the opening minutes. However, Bologna responded before the break, with Riccardo Orsolini calmly converting a penalty 10 minutes before half-time to restore parity.
Despite chances at both ends after the interval, neither side could find a winner, forcing the match into a penalty shoot-out.
Penalty drama
Vincenzo Italiano’s side showed greater composure from the spot. Inter were undone by missed penalties from Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolò Barella and Ange-Yoan Bonny, allowing Bologna to clinch a memorable win.
Speaking after the match, Immobile reflected on his difficult season following a long spell on the sidelines with a thigh injury.
“I’ve had three and a half months of suffering, but I have a big family who helped me,” Immobile said.
“Napoli are in great shape, but it’s a one-off match and anything can happen.”
About the Italian Super Cup
Traditionally contested between the Serie A champions and Italian Cup winners, the Italian Super Cup was expanded in 2023 to include the runners-up from both competitions. The four-team format is scheduled to be hosted in Saudi Arabia until 2029.
