The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, has withdrawn his petition against Ahmed Farouk, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Dangote had submitted the petition to the ICPC in December 2025 through his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, alleging corruption and financial impropriety against Farouk.

Allegations in the Petition

In the petition, Dangote called for Farouk’s arrest, investigation, and prosecution, accusing him of living beyond his means while in public office.

He alleged that the former NMDPRA boss spent over $7 million on the education of his four children in Switzerland within a six-year period, without any clear evidence of lawful income to support such expenses.

Petition Withdrawn

Providing an update on Wednesday, ICPC spokesperson Okor Odey said the commission received a formal notice of withdrawal from Dangote’s lawyer.

According to Odey, the petition was withdrawn in its entirety, with the letter stating that another law enforcement agency has taken over the matter.

ICPC Investigation Continues

Despite the withdrawal, the ICPC stressed that its investigation will continue.

Quoting from the letter signed by O.J. Onoja, SAN, the statement said the petition dated December 16, 2025, against Engineer Farouk Ahmed, the immediate past CEO of the NMDPRA, had been withdrawn.

However, the commission noted that, in line with Sections 3(14) and 27(3) of the ICPC Act, investigations had already commenced and remain ongoing.

“The ICPC will therefore continue to investigate this matter in line with its statutory mandate and in the interest of transparency, accountability, and the fight against corruption for the benefit of Nigeria,” the statement said.

Farouk’s Resignation

Barely 24 hours after the petition was submitted to the ICPC, Ahmed Farouk resigned as CEO of the NMDPRA following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
