Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday night attacked the National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Investigations by The PUNCH revealed that the attack occurred at about 9:00 p.m. Unconfirmed reports indicate that no fewer than five NPS personnel were killed during the assault.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said security agencies have swung into action.
“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men on officers of the National Park Service. The Commissioner of Police and other service chiefs are currently on their way to the location,” he said.
Ayanlade added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, Mobile Police Force (MPF) operatives, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to the area to forestall any further breakdown of law and order.
Security operations are ongoing as authorities work to restore calm and ascertain the full extent of casualties.
