The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a mix of haze, sunshine, and isolated thunderstorms across the country from Wednesday to Friday.

In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet said sunny and hazy conditions will dominate the northern region throughout the forecast period.

Southern Region

NiMet expects mostly sunny skies with patches of cloud across the southern states. However, there are chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall, particularly later in the day over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

Thursday Outlook

On Thursday, sunny and hazy conditions are forecast over the northern and central regions, while the southern region will experience sunny skies with cloud patches.

  • Morning hours: Thunderstorms with light rainfall may occur over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.
  • Later in the day: Thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa.

Friday Outlook

NiMet predicts sunny and hazy skies over the northern region during the morning, with dust haze becoming more pronounced in the afternoon and evening.

The central region will also experience sunny and hazy conditions, while the southern region is expected to be cloudy with sunny intervals in the morning. There are chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers.

Public Advisory

NiMet warned that dust particles remain in suspension over parts of the North-Central region and advised residents to take necessary precautions.

People with asthma and other respiratory conditions are urged to be cautious. Motorists are advised to drive carefully during rainfall, while airline operators should obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with official weather information via NiMet’s platforms.
