Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has expressed delight following Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique, describing the performance as a strong statement of intent at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Super Eagles delivered a dominant display in Fès on Monday, combining purpose, urgency, and clinical finishing to overwhelm their opponents.
Osimhen Leads as Eagles Cruise Into Quarter-Finals
Star striker Victor Osimhen, making his 50th senior appearance for Nigeria, scored twice to lead the rout. He was supported by goals from Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams, as Nigeria sealed qualification for the quarter-finals of the 35th AFCON tournament.
“I am happy about this game. It is an important victory with four goals to show our statement of intent,” Chelle told reporters after the match.
‘This Is Only One Game’ — Chelle Warns Against Complacency
While praising his players for their performance, Chelle cautioned against overconfidence, stressing that the result was only a step in the journey.
“I am very happy and proud of my players. They played a great game, but this is only one game,” he said.
The coach confirmed that the team will travel to Marrakech on Wednesday to begin preparations for their next fixture.
“We will be leaving for Marrakech to prepare for a big game against Algeria or DR Congo,” Chelle stated.
Maintaining Intensity and Discipline
Chelle emphasized the need for consistency, intensity, and discipline as the tournament progresses.
“My duty now is to stay ambitious, train hard, and maintain the intensity and aggressiveness of the team,” he said.
He also played down any internal issues, insisting that team matters would remain private.
“What happens on the pitch stays within the group. My job is to keep the players focused,” the coach added.
NAN reports that Nigeria will face the winner of Algeria versus DR Congo in the quarter-final clash scheduled for Saturday in Marrakech, as the Super Eagles continue their quest for continental glory.
