The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to investigate multiple sexual misconduct allegations levelled against Senior Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries.
The directive follows mounting public outrage triggered by allegations that have gone viral on social media in recent days.
Pastor Steps Aside as Allegations Mount
As earlier reported by Saturday PUNCH, the popular cleric stepped down from his pastoral duties on New Year’s Day amid escalating accusations. Several women have since come forward with separate claims, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, who has shared emotional accounts of her alleged experiences with the pastor.
In a widely circulated video from a church service last Sunday, Okafor publicly apologised to Ogala. Kneeling on the pulpit, he admitted to past “mistakes” and asked for forgiveness.
The controversy comes shortly after the pastor’s wedding to a new bride, identified simply as Pearl, on December 16, 2025. The ceremony was reportedly attended by prominent clerics.
Police Initially Cite Lack of Formal Complaint
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, had on Friday stated that the police could not arrest Pastor Okafor because none of the alleged victims had submitted a formal petition.
She added that, at the time, she was unaware of any official complaints against the cleric despite the widespread allegations on social media.
CP Orders Investigation, Summons Pastor and Alleged Victims
However, following renewed enquiries by PUNCH Online on Saturday night—including direct messages sent to the Commissioner of Police—Adebisi confirmed on Sunday that CP Jimoh had ordered the SCID to take action.
“The CP has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, despite the fact that no one has formally come forward to report,” the police spokesperson said.
She added that the alleged victims and witnesses would also be invited to provide statements to aid the investigation.
Adebisi further disclosed that she had personally reached out to one of the YouTubers who interviewed the alleged victims in order to obtain direct contact with potential witnesses.
Allegations Trace Back to 2017
The allegations against Pastor Okafor first gained public attention on December 14, when actress Doris Ogala posted a series of emotional videos on her Instagram page.
In the videos, Ogala accused the cleric of engaging in a sexual relationship with her, allegedly beginning in 2017 and lasting nine years. She claimed that Okafor repeatedly promised to marry her before eventually marrying another woman in December 2025.
The police investigation is ongoing.
