US President Donald Trump has issued stern warnings to Colombia and Cuba following a dramatic US operation in Venezuela that led to the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday at his Mar-a-Lago residence, Trump doubled down on earlier remarks targeting Colombian President Gustavo Petro, accusing him of links to drug production and trafficking.

“He has cocaine mills. He has factories where he makes cocaine. And yes, I stick by my first statement — he’s making cocaine,” Trump said of Petro.

Trump further alleged that the drugs were being trafficked into the United States, adding a sharp warning:

“They’re sending it to the United States. So he does have to watch his a—,” the president said, shortly after describing Maduro as a “narco-terrorist.”

Tensions With Colombia Escalate

The latest remarks mark a significant escalation in tensions between Washington and Bogotá. Weeks earlier, Trump had branded Petro a “troublemaker” and warned that he “better watch it.”

Petro has since repeatedly criticised the US military operation in Venezuela, voicing his opposition through social media posts and public statements.

Cuba Also in Trump’s Crosshairs

Trump also directed criticism at Cuba, which has long been a close ally of Venezuela and has relied heavily on Venezuelan oil. The Cuban government is also reported to have provided security support to Maduro.

Describing Cuba as a “failing nation,” Trump criticised President Miguel Díaz-Canel and the country’s political system.

“Cuba, as you know, is not doing very well right now. That system has not been a very good one for Cuba,” Trump said.

“The people there have suffered for many, many years, and I think Cuba is something we’ll end up talking about, because Cuba is a failing nation right now.”

Trump said the US wants to support ordinary Cubans while also standing with those who fled the country and now live in the United States.

“It’s very similar in the sense that we want to help the people in Cuba, but we also want to help the people who were forced out of Cuba and are living in this country,” he added.

Rubio Slams Cuban Leadership

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a former Florida senator known for his hardline stance on Cuba, echoed Trump’s criticism, describing the communist government as a “disaster.”

Rubio accused the Cuban leadership of being run by “incompetent, senile men,” reinforcing the administration’s tough position toward Havana.
