Venezuela’s regional neighbours and international allies of President Nicolás Maduro on Saturday strongly condemned what was described as a large-scale United States military strike on the South American nation, as Spain offered to mediate in a bid to prevent further escalation.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that American forces had captured President Maduro and flown him, along with his wife, out of Venezuela.

In response, the Venezuelan government denounced the action as an “extremely serious military aggression” by Washington and declared a nationwide state of emergency. Several countries aligned with Caracas swiftly criticised the US move, warning of grave regional and humanitarian consequences.

Iran

Iran, which maintains close political and economic ties with oil-rich Venezuela, strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a flagrant violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Tehran said the US action undermined international law and threatened regional stability.

Colombia

Colombian President Gustavo Petro described the strike as an “assault on the sovereignty of Latin America,” warning that it could trigger a major humanitarian crisis.

Colombia, currently a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, called for an emergency meeting of the body. Petro urged the international community to act swiftly to prevent further deterioration.

Cuba

Cuba, a long-time ally of Venezuela, condemned the US operation as “state terrorism against the brave Venezuelan people.”

In a statement, President Miguel Díaz-Canel described the incident as a “criminal attack” and called on the international community to respond decisively.

Russia

Russia also denounced the US military action, describing it as an act of armed aggression.

“This is deeply concerning and condemnable,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“The pretexts used to justify such actions are untenable. Ideological hostility has triumphed over pragmatic diplomacy,” it added.

Spain

Spain offered to mediate in the unfolding crisis, calling for restraint and dialogue.

“Spain calls for de-escalation and calm,” the Foreign Ministry said, noting that it is ready to assist in the search for a democratic, negotiated, and peaceful solution to the Venezuelan crisis.

Germany

Germany’s Foreign Ministry said it was closely monitoring developments in Venezuela and expressed serious concern over the reports.

Berlin confirmed that its crisis response team was in session and that it was coordinating closely with international partners, including diplomatic staff in Caracas.
