The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed claims that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, describing the reports as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, the Commission clarified that no timetable or schedule has been published for the 2027 polls, contrary to information circulating in some quarters.
INEC emphasised that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law. According to the Commission, Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 mandates INEC to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date fixed for a general election.
“The Commission wishes to categorically refute reports circulating in some quarters claiming that it has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election,” the statement read.
“This information is false and misleading. INEC has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.”
The electoral body stressed that any timetable or schedule issued outside the statutory timeframe cannot have originated from INEC.
INEC further assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election would be released in due course, in full compliance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022.
The Commission added that once released, the timetable would be communicated through its official and verified channels, urging the public and the media to disregard fake reports and rely solely on INEC’s platforms for accurate and authoritative information.
