The Vice President of the National Association of Media and Publishers (ANME), Mohammed Daki, has called for the creation of a stronger and more coordinated network of African journalists to promote positive narratives about the continent.
Daki made the call on Thursday in Casablanca, Morocco, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said the initiative to host journalists from across Africa in Morocco was aimed at strengthening existing partnerships between Moroccan media professionals and their counterparts on the continent.
According to him, the visit was designed to deepen collaboration, encourage knowledge exchange, and foster a shared commitment to telling Africa’s stories from an African perspective.
“There is a need for African journalists to have a strong network to be able to tell the stories of Africa to the world,” Daki said.
He explained that the engagement also provided an opportunity to showcase Morocco’s infrastructural development and investment opportunities to the wider international community.
Daki noted that, in the past, African media organisations often focused more on developments outside the continent, stressing the importance of looking inward to better understand and report Africa’s realities.
“We believe in Africa. It is very important to give the best to Africa as a continent with abundant talents and opportunities,” he added.
He assured that the association would sustain the initiative to ensure long-term cooperation and stronger professional ties among African journalists.
