Godiya Akwashiki, the senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District, has died at the age of 52.
Family sources confirmed on Thursday that Senator Akwashiki passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at a hospital in India, where he had been receiving medical treatment for a prolonged illness.

The senator had reportedly been ill since his re-election in 2023 and was hospitalised at different times in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and India. The exact nature of his illness was not publicly disclosed.
Political Career
Senator Akwashiki was first elected to the National Assembly in 2019 and secured re-election in 2023, making him the only senator from Nasarawa North to serve two consecutive terms since the creation of Nasarawa State. He was elected on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Before joining the Senate, Akwashiki served multiple terms in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, where he rose through the ranks to become Majority Leader and later Deputy Speaker.
