President Bola Ahmed Tinubu previously attended the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in January 2025, where he held high-level meetings with Gulf investors and government officials. Discussions at the forum focused on trade, energy cooperation, and climate finance, as Nigeria sought to strengthen economic partnerships and attract foreign investment.

Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Tinubu has embarked on at least 46 foreign trips, spending an estimated 192 days outside the country as of October 2025.

In 2025 alone, the president travelled abroad no fewer than 15 times, visiting countries such as Ghana, the United Arab Emirates, Tanzania, France, Italy, Saint Lucia, Japan, and Brazil. The trips covered a mix of international summits, bilateral engagements, and official holidays.

Judges’ Appointment: NJC Shortlists 28 as 34 Fail Integrity Test

By Deborah Musa, Abuja

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has revealed that 34 applicants, including a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), failed the integrity screening for judicial appointments conducted by the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC).

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the NJC explained that although 62 candidates passed the Computer-Based Test (CBT) organised by the Federal High Court, only 28 nominees successfully cleared the integrity assessment.

Public-Feedback Integrity Screening

According to the council, the 62 CBT-qualified candidates were forwarded to the FJSC in line with a new integrity policy introduced by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

Upon assuming office, Justice Kekere-Ekun implemented a public-feedback-based integrity test, allowing members of the public to submit petitions or comments on shortlisted judicial nominees.

The NJC statement read in part:

“Sixty-two applicants passed the CBT conducted by the Federal High Court and were forwarded to the FJSC. In line with the policy introduced by the CJN, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the FJSC published the names of the nominees on September 17, 2025, inviting public feedback on their integrity, reputation, and suitability for judicial appointment.”

Petition Against Serving CSP

One of the petitions, sighted by The PUNCH, accused a serving CSP of bribery and lack of integrity, describing her as unfit for judicial office.

The petition, submitted by a legal practitioner on behalf of a client, alleged that the officer had a history of soliciting bribes. It claimed that while serving as Officer-in-Charge of the Legal Section at Zone 7 Police Command, Abuja, the CSP demanded ₦1 million through a proxy to grant bail during a court enforcement exercise on January 16, 2025.

The petitioners further stated that the matter was investigated by the Police Service Commission, with the funds allegedly traced to the officer’s bank account.

Commending the judiciary for the integrity screening process, the petitioners described it as essential for restoring public confidence in the justice system, adding:

“She is a corrupt police officer and, if appointed, would only become a corrupt judicial officer.”

NJC Meeting Scheduled

Following the conclusion of the public feedback exercise, the FJSC forwarded only 28 names to the NJC, with 34 applicants failing the integrity test.

The NJC’s Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Ogedengbe, confirmed that the council will meet on January 13 and 14 to deliberate on issues arising from the selection process.

She added that the 28 shortlisted candidates would appear before the NJC interview panel ahead of the meeting, stressing that the council remains committed to transparency and high ethical standards under the leadership of Justice Kekere-Ekun.
