The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has called on Christians to intensify prayers for lasting peace in Sokoto State, across Nigeria, and around the world.
The governor made the appeal in his Christmas message to Christians in the state, as conveyed in a statement issued by the state government’s spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa.
He noted that although Sokoto State has a long-standing reputation for peaceful coexistence and unity, it is currently facing security challenges, particularly banditry in the eastern part of the state. However, he stressed that his administration has taken significant steps to address the situation.
“The state government has recruited state security personnel and strengthened collaboration with federal security agencies to enhance capacity and effectively tackle the security challenges,” the governor said.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu also disclosed that a military base has been established in Ilela Local Government Area, while allowances for security personnel deployed to troubled areas have been increased to boost morale.
He urged Christians in the state to use the Christmas season to offer special prayers for the state and the nation to achieve sustainable peace.
The governor further commended the peaceful relationship among ethnic and religious groups in Sokoto State, emphasizing that meaningful development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace.
