Cambodia and Thailand have begun four-day talks aimed at resolving a border dispute that flared up again earlier this month.
The discussions are taking place in Thailand’s Chanthaburi province, despite Cambodia’s request for the talks to be held at a neutral venue.
The renewed tensions erupted on December 7, following the collapse of an agreement that Thailand’s foreign minister said was hastily entered into under a framework designed by the United States.
Both sides reported exchanging attacks on Wednesday. However, statements from Phnom Penh and Bangkok suggest cautious optimism over the outcome of the latest round of negotiations.
The talks are expected to conclude on Saturday, with both countries hoping to reach a lasting solution to the long-running border dispute.
