EFCC Uncovers ₦212 Billion Worth of Assets Linked to Abubakar Malami

Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has uncovered 41 assets valued at approximately ₦212 billion, which it alleges are linked to the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

The revelation was reported by Nigeria’s independent online newspaper, TheCable, which said the assets include hotels, residential buildings, flats, and schools. According to the report, the properties were traced to Abuja, Kano State, and Kebbi State, Malami’s home state.

The newspaper quoted the anti-graft agency as saying that properties valued at about ₦162,195,950,000 were discovered in Kebbi State, while assets worth ₦16,011,800,000 were identified in Kano State. In Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, properties valued at approximately ₦34,685,000,000 were reportedly uncovered.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has filed 16 criminal charges against the former justice minister, bordering on allegations of breach of trust. The charges also implicate his son, Abdulaziz Malami, who is accused of being involved in the alleged offences.

The EFCC says investigations into the matter are ongoing.
