Defending champions Chelsea delivered a ruthless performance as they demolished Liverpool 9–1 to book their place in the Women’s League Cup semi-finals. Last season’s runners-up Manchester City also advanced after an emphatic victory.
Sam Kerr set the tone with two early goals, while Johanna Rytting Kaneryd grabbed a superb hat-trick. Wieke Kaptein added two more, with Sjoeke Nüsken and captain Millie Bright also finding the net in a dominant display.
Liverpool’s only consolation came through a Jenna Clark header, but the result extended their poor run to four games without a win in all competitions, leaving them bottom of the Women’s Super League table.
Man City Cruise Past West Ham
Chelsea will face Manchester City away in the semi-finals after City swept aside West Ham 5–1 on Sunday.
Goals from Kerolin and Lauren Hemp inside the opening 10 minutes put City firmly in control. Riko Ueki briefly raised West Ham’s hopes with a powerful strike in the 26th minute, but City responded emphatically.
Further goals from Grace Clinton, Khadija Shaw, and Laura Coombs sealed a convincing win for Gareth Taylor’s side.
Arsenal and Manchester United Complete Semi-Final Line-Up
Arsenal secured a 2–0 victory over Crystal Palace, while Manchester United edged Tottenham Hotspur 2–1 in another tightly contested tie.
Laia Codina opened the scoring for Arsenal with a looping header after 20 minutes. Despite controlling much of the game, the Gunners had to wait until stoppage time for Stina Blackstenius to seal the win. Crystal Palace, the only Barclays Women’s Championship side remaining, played in front of a record crowd of 3,040 at the VBS Community Stadium.
At the same time, Manchester United followed up last weekend’s thrilling 3–3 WSL draw with Spurs by edging them in the cup. Drew Spence struck first for Tottenham, but second-half goals from Jess Park and Fridolina Rolfö ensured progression for Marc Skinner’s team.
