Wanted Drug Kingpin Arrested 12 Years After Killing Three NDLEA Officers

By Staff Reporter

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a long-wanted drug kingpin, Lekan Jimoh, popularly known as “Kanmo-Kanmo,” twelve years after his alleged role in the killing of three NDLEA officers.

Jimoh was arrested on Friday, January 16, 2026, in Owode, Ogun State, following intelligence-led operations by tactical units of the agency. A search of his hideout led to the recovery of 69 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis.

Fugitive Since 2014

In a statement issued on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said Jimoh had been on the agency’s wanted list since June 15, 2014, when he allegedly mobilised armed thugs to attack NDLEA officers attempting to arrest him at his enclave.

According to Babafemi, the attack resulted in the brutal killing of three officers, including Rabiu Usman Kazaure.

“Following his involvement in the cold-blooded murder of three NDLEA officers, Kanmo-Kanmo—who is notorious for drug trafficking, evading arrest and mobilising armed thugs against security agents—was tracked to his hideout in Owode, Ogun State after credible intelligence,” Babafemi said.

“During the carefully executed operation, 69 kilograms of skunk were recovered from his possession.”

Babafemi described the arrest as a major breakthrough, stressing that no fugitive remains beyond the reach of the law.

Previous Escape and Asset Forfeiture

The agency recalled that Jimoh narrowly escaped arrest during a raid on his residence in Ado-Odo, Ogun State, on August 12, 2023, when NDLEA operatives recovered 139 sacks of skunk weighing 1,922 kilograms.

The property, which was being used as a drug warehouse, was subsequently forfeited to the Federal Government after court proceedings.

Nationwide Operations Yield More Arrests

The NDLEA also recorded multiple arrests and seizures across several states:

  • Edo State: Operatives raided Arokpa Forest in Uzebba, Owan West LGA, arresting Isihor Edika (53) and seizing 320 kilograms of skunk and cannabis seeds.
  • Abuja (FCT): A 44-year-old woman, Yinka Agboola, was arrested in Kaura District over the alleged online sale of illicit drugs. Recovered items included 2.2 kilograms of skunk and cannabis oil produced in her kitchen. Another suspect, Tordue Pius Richard (30), was arrested with cocaine and skunk at Abacha Estate.
  • Lagos: NDLEA officers seized 118.1 kilograms of skunk from Dauda Kareem and Saheed Obisesan in Fadeyi, Mushin.
  • Enugu State: 116 kilograms of skunk were recovered from a warehouse in the New Market area.
  • Delta State: Along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway, two suspects—Zaharadeen Yahaya (25) and Sanusi Maman (23)—were arrested with large quantities of tramadol, codeine syrup, diazepam, swinol and Molly.
  • Oyo State: Several suspects were arrested in Ibadan with skuchies, Colorado (synthetic cannabis), skunk and Scottish Loud, while over 52,000 tramadol and bromazepam pills were recovered during a separate raid.
  • Kwara State: Operatives seized 42 bags of skunk weighing 387.4 kilograms from a residence in Ilorin.
  • Jigawa State: An ex-convict, Gaddafi Ammani (26), and his accomplice, Ahmed Sani (32), were arrested with skunk and exol-5 pills. Ammani reportedly injured an officer while attempting to escape.

Marwa: Arrest Closes a Painful Chapter

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers across the affected commands for their efforts, describing Jimoh’s arrest as a triumph of justice.

“You may run, and you may hide for a season, but the long arm of the law will eventually find you,” Marwa said.

“The arrest of Lekan Jimoh closes a painful chapter that began on June 15, 2014. For twelve years, he lived with the blood of our gallant officers—Rabiu Usman Kazaure and two others—on his hands, believing time had erased his crimes.”

Renewed Crackdown on Drug Networks

The NDLEA said the arrest of Jimoh comes amid intensified nationwide operations aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks, disrupting supply chains, and apprehending fugitives linked to past attacks on law enforcement officers.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of drug-related crimes, regardless of how long they evade justice, are eventually brought to book.
