Nigeria’s Super Eagles were eliminated from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday after losing 4–2 on penalties to host nation Morocco, following a tense 0–0 draw after extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
The semi-final encounter was closely fought over 120 minutes, with both teams displaying discipline and tactical awareness. Morocco enjoyed more of the attacking momentum and recorded the majority of shots on target, but were unable to break down a resilient Nigerian defence.
Goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali of Nigeria and Yassine Bounou of Morocco produced a series of crucial saves during regulation and extra time to keep the scoreline level.
The deadlock was eventually settled from the penalty spot, where Nigeria’s hopes were dashed after Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno missed their attempts. Morocco converted four of their kicks to secure a 4–2 shootout victory.
The Atlas Lions will now face Senegal in the final as they continue their quest for continental glory.
