January 13 — Tyrese Maxey poured in 33 points on Monday night as the Philadelphia 76ers delivered a dominant 115–102 road victory over the Toronto Raptors, splitting their two-game set.
Philadelphia looked revitalised with the return of Joel Embiid and Paul George, both of whom were absent during Toronto’s 116–115 overtime win on Sunday. The 76ers’ improved defensive intensity set the tone for a wire-to-wire performance.
Embiid finished with 27 points and eight rebounds, while George chipped in 15 points. Rookie VJ Edgecombe added an all-around effort, recording 15 points and eight assists, as Philadelphia split the four-game season series with Toronto.
Raptors’ Effort Falls Short
For the Raptors, Immanuel Quickley led the scoring with 18 points, followed by Brandon Ingram with 17. Scottie Barnes contributed 15 points, A.J. Lawson added 14, and Collin Murray-Boyles posted 12 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
Despite a late push, Toronto never fully recovered from an early deficit. The 76ers entered the fourth quarter holding a 22-point lead. Barnes cut the margin to 15 with a pair of free throws midway through the final period, but Embiid quickly answered with a driving hook shot to halt the momentum.
First-Half Domination
Maxey set the pace early, scoring 18 points in the first quarter as Philadelphia surged to a 45–28 lead. The visitors continued to pile on in the second quarter, with Jabari Walker knocking down a three-pointer and finishing a layup to extend the lead to 22.
A steal by Edgecombe led to an uncontested layup by Kelly Oubre Jr., pushing the advantage to 26. Maxey later buried a three to stretch the lead to 29, and the 76ers went into halftime up 80–51 — the most points Toronto has allowed in a half this season.
Philadelphia shot a scorching 73% from the field (27-for-37) and 65% from beyond the arc (13-for-20) in the first half. Toronto struggled offensively, shooting 37% overall and just 15% from three-point range.
Late Rally, Comfortable Finish
Edgecombe’s three-pointer gave the 76ers their largest lead at 33 points early in the third quarter. With Embiid resting, Toronto mounted a brief 17–3 run, trimming the deficit to 18 late in the period. Philadelphia, however, remained in control and led 99–77 entering the final quarter.
Emotional Moment for Lowry
Toronto fans gave a warm ovation to former Raptors star Kyle Lowry, who checked in with 1:57 remaining. With limited appearances this season, it could mark Lowry’s final game in Toronto as an active player.
