BREAKING: Nigerian Soldiers Released by Burkina Faso Arrive Safely in Accra

Accra, Ghana – Nigerian soldiers detained in Burkina Faso have safely arrived at an Air Force base in Accra, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar confirmed on Friday evening.

• The soldiers, crew of NAF C-130 (913), were released on December 17 after nearly two weeks in detention.
• Minister Tuggar led a delegation to meet Burkina Faso junta leader Ibrahim Traoré, delivering a message of solidarity from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
• The landing in Bobo-Dioulasso was precautionary due to a technical issue, conducted following international aviation safety protocols.

“The successful outcome reflects Nigeria’s commitment to diplomacy, regional cooperation, and the leadership of President Tinubu in resolving sensitive matters through dialogue,” Tuggar said in a statement on X.

The soldiers’ detention followed claims by the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) that the landing was an “unfriendly act.” Nigeria’s Air Force clarified it was a standard safety measure, emphasizing compliance with international law.
